This week, we’re leaving the extraordinary vistas of Big Sur and heading north approximately 22.9 miles to Monterey. Average 7,000 steps per day to arrive on time.

If you are looking for an easy and inexpensive way to stay healthy, get your heart pumping, or lose weight, you need nothing more than your own two feet. Walking, jogging, and running are ideal forms of exercise because they’re free and you can do it almost anytime, anywhere.

Start the challenge out on the right foot (see what we did there?) and set some goals to help you achieve success. The best goals are SMART goals:

S: Specific. The difference here is saying “I’ll walk for 30 minutes 5 days a week” versus “I’ll try harder”.

M: Measurable. How will you measure success? In 6 weeks will you be able to say, “Yes, I met my goal”?

A: Attainable. Challenge yourself but understand what is realistic.

R: Relevant. Is the goal important to you at this time in your life?

T: Timely. This program lasts for just a few weeks so we advise setting your goal date for the duration of this challenge. Then, reevaluate a new goal after the challenge is complete.

In addition to a SMART goal, identify what could prevent you from completing the specific steps you identified in your goal.  How will you assure these barriers do not get in the way of your goal?
